Russ needed to head over the moutains to see a client yesterday. He thought it would be fun to take Levi and Luke and play in the snow. I always wonder if he knows what he is getting himself into, but Russ is a big boy. He just wings it, and everything turns out fine. Three very tired guys trudged into the house late last night after 14 hours of driving/working/and playing.
Chains were required over the pass, and Russ had to stop a few times to help get trees out of the road. It was slow going, but Luke and Levi rarely see snow (although we did get a few flakes at home on Christmas Day!), and it was a great novelty. They were able to play in the snow after dark, thanks to a night skiing area. Russ topped them off with hot chocolate in the lodge. What a great dad!

Your photographs are so beautiful. I especially love the ones from your Christmas day - probably due to the subject matter. What kind of camera do you use? We're in the market - with Christmas money to spare!
Hi Heidi - I found you through Pioneer Woman... Just read through some of your blog, and it's quite interesting! Your boys are so cute, and Oregon is so beautiful! I was in Seaside once a long time ago, but your area looks gorgeous.
Just thought I'd say hi!
Thanks! We have a Nikon D50. I really like it. Sometimes it is a pain to carry around, though, and I envy those with little cameras that fit in a pocket or purse. :)
All of my photos are straight from the camera. I wish I would make time to figure out photoshop. It takes me forever to get comfortable with stuff like that! Maybe this next year...
Lulu~ I'm so glad you said hi! Thanks for visiting and come back any time. :) Oregon *is* very beautiful. I love it!
Absolutely gorgeous!! Wish we'd get some of that in our mountains!

your photos are almost as beautiful as you! I truly enjoy my daily peel into your life. Thanks for sharing your family with me. It is funny how close I feel to my blog friends. Know that if you are ever in the Oklahoma area, you have a place to stay.
I also have some Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket. Thinking about the Nikon D40x? Any thoughts?
Heidi's Husband says... I'm trying to convince my wife we need one of those D40X kits from Costco. Two Lenses and the 10.1 Megapixel resolution.. but ours does so well that it is a hard sell. I did purchase the D80 a year ago, and after using it two weeks returned it because we felt the D50 returned consistently better photos "straight from the camera"
With the current price incentives from Nikon, I think this would be a great buy for a first time DSLR buyer who wants the class of camera most pros would buy if they didn't need to show the world how successful they are with the D100/D200/D300 etc. and Fuji S series. One other thing... If you have any old Nikon Lens' lying around (All lenses from about 1955 forward work on the Nikon body's)you won't want the 40 or 40x, as they don't have auto focus control motors on the body. They have to use the new lenses, which have the motor built into them. Same thing with Flashs. You will need one of the newest external flashes for the D50, D40, D40x, or any of the newer Nikon series. So, if you know someone with lots of Nikon gear, and they may be getting rid of it, you may want to find a D50 laying around. The review linked earlier has much more info about the pros and cons of this camera, as well as info on other cameras you might select.

LOL, hubby. My answer would have been something along the lines of, 'Yeah, sure! Nikons are great.' :) But Country Girl~ There's your answer. :) Thanks for the compliments! I'm thinking about planning a cross country road trip with the family and bumming off all my online friends. Wouldn't that be fun?!
I ordered what Russ suggested...nikon d40x with the 2 lenses.
PS....You are always welcome here.
Good for you! I can't wait to see your pretty new photos! :) Have fun with your new toy.
