The Road Home

The other evening my husband suggested we head over to my parents' home to go for a walk. The evening was beautiful and Russ had a coconut cream pie (thanks to Costco) he wanted to share. We couldn't get a hold of my mom and dad, but we decided to go for a walk anyway and hope they showed up.
We drove the mile or two and got out the kids' bikes. I spent my entire childhood on this road. It is a quiet mile-long country road.

I can't describe to you how sentimental this spot of earth is to me. It contains more memories and emotions than any other.
We now live at the base of the dark hill in the background. We wave at my parents (okay, they'd need binoculars...) across the field.

It turns out my mom was trying to call us on her cell phone as soon as we had left. She was at the store picking up stuff for root beer floats and they wanted us to come over. Great minds think alike. We passed them on the road when they came home. Mom hopped out of the car to finish the walk with us:

Do you have a favorite spot on earth? I'm thrilled to live just a mile from mine. I visit my second favorite spot at least once a year. Blessed. Yep. That's what I am.

  1. What a beautiful spot. I do have favorite spots, most of them in the Smoky Mountains or over on the TN/NC border in the mountains. I also love the bay where I grew up, on the shores of Seneca Lake in upstate NY.

  2. Lovely photos. Lovely thoughts. I too once had a spot like this. It was my grandparents' farm which we sold about 2 years ago. It pains me to drive by now. But, oh, the rich memories! Thanks for sharing!

  3. How truly special. That is incredible that you live so close to your mother. I could only pray that our girls live that close to us when they get older. How sweet!

My favorite place has definitely got to be our farm. There is nothing like it to me in the entire world!

Our favorite place to visit is Garner State Park in Texas. It is breathtaking- who knew breathtaking existed in Texas???

    Have a blessed weekend!

  4. Heidi, You featured a couple of my favorite places too. I have walked that 2 mile road every time I come up there and then the other favorite place - mine too. I love your pictures. I never fail to check in but have had trouble getting my comments to register. Will see if it works today. Love, Grandma

  5. Heidi, both of your favourite places are so scenic and tranquil. The sentimental value attached to your country road would certainly make that place of the world so meaningful and even more beautiful.

For me, anywhere by the water would have to be my favourite place to be, although I love being at the top of mountains with gushing waterfalls.

    Love

  6. I love the memories I have from my grandmother's house while I was growing up. Really, more the feeling her house brings up in me more than memories of events that occurred.

But now our home is my favorite place. I love our day to day life here in the woods just being with my family. Spending our days cooking together, working on school, outside enjoying the weather. We're making some great memories that I hope will bring those same comfort feelings to all of us later.

Thank you for sharing your favorite places. This post helped me to slow down a little today and be a little more reflective.
