A child-made toy is worth a hundred purchased toys in my book, and that can be said of an education as well. Dana writes:
I want my children’s education to be characterized by this sort of creativity and discovery as they take the tools we have at hand and make something new (at least to them). I want them to have ownership of their own learning.
Yep.
Very clever toy....the best kind! I love it! You should be proud!

Hi Heidi
ReplyDeleteLevi is one very clever young man to create a multi purpose bow and arrow. I love his invention, it is highly original, creative and so much fun could be had with his creation.
Dana so eloquently described exactly what I want for my children when it comes to education. Education to me is about the child directing the learning process by being involved in the decision making. Not being forced to learn skills, or content which are irrelevant, or hold no meaning or value. It's about self expression and having options as to how they choose to demonstrate their understanding. It's about being creative, innovative, exploring, hypothesising, testing and challenging ideas, considering the what if's and the classroom is our world.
Thank you so much for your response to my comment I left on your previous post. I couldn't agree with you more.
Love
Elise
That is cool! And my daughter came over and examined the pictures over my shoulder while I was reading. I'm having a feeling I know what the children may be doing this afternoon...
