A neighbor. A stranger. A co-worker. A child. A spouse.
A little thing. A big thing. Or anything in between.

Living Lovely Challenge!!
Feel free to jump in at any time!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I donated blood for the first time EVER this week,
which I've been meaning to do for a long time
considering I'm O-.
I really hope that it makes someone's day!
Now that I know what to expect (it was easy,
even if I've felt a little drained the past couple days, grin)
and I'm on the call list,
I'll be donating blood regularly from here on.
This next week's
Living Lovely Challenge:
Make a Splash!
As the temperatures are in the 90s around here,
and our summer is rolling to a close,
I can think of several lovely ways to make a splash!!
Will you join me?
Good for you for giving blood! My husband has given about 5 gallons now.
ReplyDeleteLast Thursday, we brought warm brownies and balloons to Ethan's swim coach as it was her birthday.
I think that is so awesome! I have always been terrified to donate blood. I'm turning 40 this year - maybe I'll do it for my birthday. :)
ReplyDeleteGood job for donating blood-my husband just put us on the call list-he's O- and I'm 0+ so they kind of like us (grin)
ReplyDeleteThis week I took a little extra time with my daughter, time to reconnect a bit. It made my day, it sure seemed like it did hers too. I didn't blog about it, but I appreciated your prompt to live lovely and make someone's day.
this week I had a lovely girls night 'in' with my two daughters. Daddy had gone to a baseball game with his friends so us girls made tacos, watched movies and did our nails together {spa night!}. It was so much fun! My girls are always begging me to do their nails so I know it really made their day! =)
ReplyDeleteMaking Someones Day! It wasnt this week it was the day after Christmas. I have only shared what I did with one other person, my hubby, because I didnt want to become about me and my actions. This seems like an appropriate time to share.
ReplyDeleteI was standing in the checkout line at Fred Meyers when a cute elderly woman stepped up behind me in line. She was pushing a walker w/ her handbag on the seat. She had a beautiful white wool coat on with matching beret, earrings the whole bit. With her was a FM employee that had helped her pick out a new pair of black paten leather shoes and a pink pair of slippers. She was standing there w/ cash in her hand waiting patiently for her turn. I paid for my storage bins and then told the cashier that I would be paying for the womans items. He was confused and didnt understand what I was trying to tell him. The woman was confused when the cashier told me her total and I paid it. I quietly explained to the woman what I had done and that I wished her Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. She stated that she had never had such a thing happen to her before and that there seems to be more of her money going out each month rather than coming in. She was very appreciative and her smile and sparkle in her was priceless to me. In fact, I am tearing up just typing this down.
Many blessing to you and yours.
I haven't done anything, it would seem for any one in a while. But last summer(during the hottest days of a Louisiana summer), I was in the grocery parking lot. I was at a Super Target, which can seem wholly(sp?) unatural in itself, but I was also sick/cold/sinus infection. Everything was a little more difficult to hear, see, think. I was somewhat discourage, actually even angry I was at the store alone, when it seemed what I really needed was to be at home in the bed. As I was leaving, with my smallest child, still I think in the carrier, a woman leaving with her 2 sons was leaving at the same time. We'd not spoken, but we were walking the same direction. OUr cars were in the same area of parking lot, and I was really struggling. I don't 'do' struggle. I have always seemed to be in complete control, but this day had me down.
ReplyDeleteThis lady seemed to perceive it and sent her son over to help me unload/load up. He wasn't more than 8 but was extremely courteous & more careful than the baggers at most grocery checkout stands. I began to choke up, and tried to hide it, but say thankyou. She didn't ask what was wrong-she knew we'd melt, but she said to me, while hugging me(I'm not a random hugger) this hug wasn't from a stranger, it was from Jesus. She smiled, didn't join me in the tears, but handed me her personal card, and said she figured it was just a bad day, and I just need a hug. She asked me if I had a church family, told me to come to her church anytime, and if ever I needed anything to call her or her husband. I couldn't even say thanks, I really needed someone, Someone with skin to hug me and say they'd noticed me. She did, and through her Jesus did. I'll never forget it.
BTW, their church is also the church known for handing out icy cold water bottles on the corner of busy intersections in our metro area. I received one last week. Believe me, it makes a difference in the deep south, an impression for good & love. Their verbal message is simple when you receive the bottle, a simple greeting and blessing. Wasn't it Mother Teresa that said, 'one person, one at a time...'?
Best & blessings to all
Good for you!! I got up EARLY and had coffee with my husband every day this week. He says his day peaks at 6 in the morning when I get out of bed and start the day with him. It sounds silly, but I am REALLY not a morning person. Fun challenge!
ReplyDeleteHopefully I "made her day"today for the bagger at the grocery store when I reminded her I used to watch her play basketball and how good she was when she played in a city team with my grand daughter. She said my gd was good but I said, not as good as you. She really was fast and accurate, so hopefully she was encouraged. She has given up sports for her scholastic work in Comm. college which is also commendable.
ReplyDeleteThis weekend is my husband's birthday and he's been a bit down lately. I've been racking my brain as to what to get him and I thought to write him a letter of "who he is" just as a reminder of all the great things he does and has done. He loved it and so has everyone else who's read it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this challenge. I had two couples over for dinner this week hoping it would make their wives' day. I know it always makes my day when someone else does the cooking!
ReplyDeleteYou all have made *my* day with your comments!! I've enjoyed reading through each one. Isn't it amazing the variety of ways (often simple ways) we can encourage others? You've given me ideas... Thank you *so much* for sharing!! Keep the comments coming!
ReplyDeleteI donated blood a few years back and came thiiiiiis close to passing out and I've been too chicken to repeat the experience. I really should get over that.
ReplyDeleteWell I'm a bit late but I did get a post up about it: http://mollythepirate.blogspot.com/2009/08/make-someones-day.html
As a recipient of donated blood---Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteI need 6 pints after I had my second child. Due to that, I cannot donate blood--but it really does save lives!
That should have been 'needed'! I wish comments had spell check & grammer check!
ReplyDeleteI FINALLY made some zucchini, blueberry bread for two (not so new) neighbors that I have been meaning to do for soooo long! Your post made me think of all the well-meaning things we want to do but get too busy to do. I'm making it a priority to do those things!!!!
