Good Grief, Levi

Levi Reading

Levi's birthday lands conveniently on the first day of the new year (6 minutes after midnight, to be exact).

In honor and celebration of my firstborn son, I thought I'd wrap up his reading list for 2009 and 7 years old.

As I was trying to find something to discomfort him with after an afternoon of less-than-desirable behavior the other day,
I settled on the torturous punishment of no reading.

He wailed, 'But I'm nothing without my books!'

  2. What an amazing list.

I can remember my mother grounding me from books too! I would say you have successfully raised a child with a love of books.

  7. W-O-W!!! My oldest son loves to read as well. I might try to keep a list of the books he reads this year, if I can keep up! Mine would pale in comparison, as well!! Hope he had a wonderful birthday!

  10. that's incredible, heidi. good for him! and happy birthday!

    two questions,
1.-how do you determine whether you buy a book or get it from the library?
2.-were you the winner of the first child born in 2002 at your hospital? :)

    happy 2010-

  11. You made me laugh with Levi's response of "I'm nothing without my books!" (I feel I can relate to him, though. I go nowhere without something to read, be a magazine, newspaper or book.) What a character. Man, he has read a ton this year!

  12. Oh, my mom used to punish me with no reading decrees, too.

That is an amazing amount of good reading! Congratulations to you and Levi!!!

  13. Oh my. Seeing that '8' on screen makes me have to own up to the fact that they're not little boys any more! 8! And what a reader!

Happy birthday, Levi, from all the boys at our house. :)

  14. Jodi~ I totally forgot to answer your questions!

    1. I'm trying to buy less and borrow more. I buy whatever good books I come across at Goodwill or St. Vinnie's. I currently buy books I really want him to read (The Princess and the Goblin, etc.) when I can't find them at the library. Other than that, I'm trying to go through our book shelves and have him read whatever books he hasn't gone through yet and getting the rest at the library.

    2. Yep. We were *really* trying to have the last baby of 2001, but it didn't work out that way. Between the tax deduction and an insurance complication, it really cost us. Other than that, though, it was quite fun to have the first baby of the new year, and will be fun for him down the road to count down to midnight and then six minutes later be the birthday boy. :)

  15. My oldest (a daughter) is just a little older than your son. Her reading list is like Levi's!

I've been wanting to introduce her to some new authors. I always love your reading lists. I can see several on Levi's list that I am going to have her look at for next time at the library. She checked out 19 books today . . . . :)

I noticed that our library is pretty short on lots of things, but other libraries in the district seem to have the books, so I think I will print up Levi's list and see about requesting those books for next time we go. She'll be delighted! I see several things on the list that I was thinking that she should read and that I completely forgot about. I was really wanting a new list of books for her; this is perfect! Thanks!
