I was hoping for a kind word. An easy word. A LOVELY word.

What I got? DILIGENCE.

I've spent quite a bit of time trying to get rid of it, but it won't go away.

Still looking for lovely in my life, but it is also:

Time to buckle down and GET TO WORK.

I'll be using my blog as an accountability tool. More about that on Saturday.

dil·i·gence
noun

Definition:

1. persistent effort: persistent and hard-working effort in doing something

What we hope ever to do with ease, we must learn first to do with diligence.

~ Samuel Johnson

He who labors diligently need never despair;
for all things are accomplished by diligence and labor.

~Menander of Athens

Hebrews 6: 10 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love
you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.
11 We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end,
in order to make your hope sure.
12 We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who
through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.

Diligence

Hebrews 12: 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses,
let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles,
and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Love your word. Love your perfectly complementary photo.

You go, Girl!!!

ps. have you diligently made it to the end of Catching Fire yet? ;-)

pps. Just finished L'Engle's Austins, currently reading Ring of Endless Light... so far, I'm not in love...

Lovely, indeed.
I seem to have two words I cannot escape. Joy and Discipline. Let's just say that today doesn't feel like either of those. Sigh...the morning began with such promise. I think we come under more attack when we move out of neutral into drive.

Hi Heidi,

love your word for 2010. Just this past Monday Samantha and I have begun our homeschool journey. My word comes from our motto: "Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence.' Abigail Adams

Ardor
-noun
intense devotion, eagerness, or enthusiasm

Susan~ Oh. My. Word. I just finished it. My heart is still beating fast.

Elaine~ Under attack? That sums it up nicely... I think joy and discipline make a great balanced pair.

Aimee~ What an awesome word, and I'm stealing your quote. :) Wahoo! for the beginning of your homeschool journey!!

your word compliments mine nicely

(intentional)

wish it could've been a word that had a bit more lovely to it, but alas..... being intentional applies to so many areas of life.

love the picture! and just think about the huge jumpstart you've gotten on being diligent with your morning walk/runs!

happy, blessed new year-

My word is moments.

On New Year's Eve I wrote on my blog: Each moment that we live is undoubtedly a gift from the Father. One of my goals for 2010 is to capture more of them... more of the simple, everyday life moments, the seemingly insignificant moments, the ones that ultimately construct a year on the calendar and a lifetime in our memories.

After marinating my brain in a few words over the last week, I keep returning to "vitality." It seems to sum up the big picture of what I need and desire in my life. Diligence and vitality seem to cooperate quite well together, too- so I'll look forward to your challenges! :)

We could all use a little diligence! My word is peace this year. We are going to be going through some major changes and I will need a it! I am going to post more soon on my blog. I had my 10th grade discipleship group pick words, too. And my best friend is now doing this as well. What a GREAT idea. So glad you encourged us to do it!!

Breathe-

I read this devotion and it summed it up for me. This year I want to just Breathe.

Wow--that was my word! That's such an encouragement that it really is the word I should be focusing on. And the encouragement of knowing that I'm not the only one! I look forward to keeping up with your posts.

Haven't been on your blog too much lately (been too "diligent" with school I guess- haha ;))...just catching up a little. I've been ruminating for a couple of months on a word for me. I have finally decided it is JOY. (with an emphasis on cheerful parenting). Hopefully I'll see ya soon! ~Tera

I'm late with my word for the year, but here it is any way...steadfast.
I really wanted a "delicate" little word, but this is what I kept coming back to. Steadfast and LESS, actually. I may end up with them both. Though neither are very exciting, are they?
