Oh, goody! Most of these are alreay on my list for next year ... so glad to hear you guys are enjoying them!
ReplyDeleteThanks! This is exactly what we're studying right now.
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful! What age group are they aimed at?
ReplyDeleteStarry Messenger is one of our favorites. Truly touching to think of all that Galileo went through with the Church, when in fact he turned out to be right. Also, just a note, there is a great Jim Weiss CD on his story as well. It's called Galileo and the Stargazers, I think.
ReplyDeletemdvlist~ Honestly, I think they are wonderful for any age. They are picture books and the illustrations are beautiful, but most of them are quite packed with information. I certainly learned something with each one. I'd probably say they are most perfect for ages 7-10, though.
ReplyDeleteJoni~ Thanks for mentioning that CD. We've really enjoyed it.
yay!!! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWe've just begun a study of the renaissance. Right now we're knee deep in building a cardboard castle, cathedral and medieval village, so these books will be very timely!
Heidi, This is right where we are in history as well. Glad to see I have some of those books already! I love the recs though..please never stop recommending books!
ReplyDeleteAre you ever frustrated that there are SO MANY good books for this time period? I don't know how in depth to go or how long to spend on any one thing. I feel like I could spend a year on the Renaissance and the Reformation! How do you decide how long to dwell on one topic? thanks, Laura
ohio12~ Yes, there are so many wonderful books to choose from. And even more heading in to early modern history. My sister and I share history books, since she is over a year ahead of us on the history rotation. I just go through our joint collections, try to see what the library has, and then go from there. If it takes a little longer to go through the chapters, so be it. Luckily, my son is a fast reader. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Luther one is one of our very favourites!
