"If you observe a really happy man you will find him building a boat, writing a symphony, educating his son, growing double dahlias in his garden or looking for dinosaur eggs in the Gobi desert. He will not be searching for happiness as if it were a collar button that has rolled under the radiator. He will not be striving for it as a goal in itself. He will have become aware that he is happy in the course of living life twenty-four crowded hours of the day."

I have never read this, but I love it! So glad my blog-hopping brought me here tonight!
What a great quote! I just tweeted a link to this.
It's the living of the life... thanks ~ blessings, Laura
It's a lovely quote. Have you read The Happiness Project? I believe its author would disagree with the thought expressed here, arguing instead that happiness is a goal that takes conscious effort. I will admit that she makes a pretty convincing argument, and the book is quite thought-provoking. Me, I see the validity in both perspectives. Maybe they can both be true, depending on what sort of temperament you have.
beautifully stated.
Love this quote. I hope you don't mind that I want to use it as my "Something to Think About" quote this month.
:-)
oh, I LOVE this! Love your recent post too!
Hannah~ I can see that point. But in reading the quote I posted, I think it is important to note the SORT of things the author talked about doing. We need to be intentional about what activities we allow to crowd the 24 hours of each day we live. Not life-sucking things that just happen because we aren't paying attention.
