  1. I can't quite explain to you how jealous a January picnic is to me--we live in the CO mountains--if we go outside, we keep moving! :) Glad you were able to get out and enjoy the weather.

  2. Well, it wasn't particularly WARM, but we enjoyed the break from the pouring rain and wind that is normal for us this time of year. I'm thankful for our mild winters, though! I'm not sure I would be able to do freezing temperatures all winter long...

  3. We have picnic weather in January, too. In fact, winters here remind me of why I endure our awful summers (especially the last one)!

Looks like yours was a lovely, healthy one!
Oh, lighting question: As someone who's trying to learn and improve her photography, I notice the absence of harsh light and shadows. Did you just happen to pick a spot that was overcast, or is that an editing trick?

  4. Hannah~ You have *real* picnic weather in January. :) I'm jealous of your light and warmth throughout our wet and dark winters, but I'd DIE during your summers. ;-P

That spot happened to be mostly shaded/overcast. I tend to pick spots like that for a reason. :)

  5. What a great innovative idea of a picnic in January!! Beautiful presentation of the whole thing and especially the salad. We are debating- is it fish or chicken? We here could have a picnic in January, especially this year but it's in the low 20s when we get up in the morning!! Crazy weather. Are the drinks chocolate or blueberry? Looks really yummy. Grandma

  6. Grandma~ The salad is chicken--the kind mom always makes. The drinks are 'green' smoothies with banana, pineapple, tons of baby spinach, and frozen blackberries. I heard that you were having crazy warm weather during the day....your weather is bipolar! :)

  9. It looks lovely! Do you have a recipe you follow for your smoothies or just throw ingredients in the blender?

  10. Here is a link to the chicken salad recipe: http://mthopeacademy.blogspot.com/2011/05/whole30-week-2.html

I don't follow a recipe for the smoothies. Just trial and error. :)

I often put in one or two bananas, a can of unsweetened pineapple (with juice), a huge amount of baby spinach, and a handful of frozen berries. If I don't do pineapple, then I put in enough OJ to make it the desired consistency. I've notice that, particularly when the smoothie is thick, we get more out of the cup if we use a straw. Otherwise a lot is left on the sides and bottom of the cup. Plus, everything tastes better through a straw! :)
