We have just completed our sixth year of Classical Conversations!
This past year was my first year tutoring Essentials (the afternoon class of English grammar, IEW history-themed writing, and math games for students ages 9-12). It was Lola’s first year in Foundations (the morning class of memory work in 6 subjects, science and fine arts projects, and public speaking for students ages 4-12), Leif’s first year in Essentials, Luke’s last year in Foundations and Essentials, and a break year for Levi. [I’ll soon be sharing details about this past year and plans for next year, so be watching for those posts! It’s going to be a bit crazy next year.]
Luke was a Memory Master again this year. This means that he recited (several times) all of this year’s memory work in one sitting—161 events and people in a chronological timeline; 44 U.S. presidents; 24 history “sentences”; 120 locations and geographical features in Africa, Europe, and the Americas; 24 science lists and facts; 5 Latin noun endings and their singular and plural declensions; English grammar facts (including 3 definitions, 53 prepositions, 23 helping verbs, and 12 linking verbs); and multiplication tables up to 15x15, common squares and cubes, and basic geometry formulas and unit conversions.
Leif had all of the above memory work solid other than geography, which we’ll master during during break.

Saturday I spent 11 hours in CC Parent Practicum speaker training (we chatted over lunch and dinner, so it was a full day of stimulating conversation!). I’m not positive if, when, and where I’ll be speaking, but I’ll be sure to mention it when I know for sure.
Last night (Monday) we had our end of the year celebration.
This morning I slept in. [Who am I kidding? I never get up early. Grin.]

I've been awaiting your post about Levi's year off. : ) So I'll keep my eyes peeled for your post about next year! Sure wish I could attend a practicum where you are speaking. Can you devulge the dates/locations?
Even though there's no 3 in your age yet, and there is one in mine, I feel like I look up to you. Josiah just finished A, Jay finished his second year of F/E (one more to go!) and MM'd, and Judah will start Essentials next year. Danielle will start Foundations next year. But then there's our extra, Jesse, also a boy. And I, too, have been eagerly awaiting the post to hear what y'all did for Levi's ChB year. Have a good rest!

I love your blog! I was a new Challenge A Director this school year and my son, who was in my group, needed to have the accountability of a study group. It worked wonders for him to be able to work with others. The other two mothers and I each take turns working with the kids. It has been such a help that we are going to continue this next year in Challenge B as well. I have also started to scout out a study group for my youngest son who will be in Challenge A next school year. It has made such an impact that I will do whatever it takes to make it work.
I just love your blog! It is such a blessing to me as a fledgling CC parent. I've been wondering what Memory Master entails; go Luke and Leif! That's amazing.

Sarah~ My best friend and I did a sort of study group for Levi and her son this year and intend to continue this next year. I had them one day each week for literature and Lost Tools of Writing, and she had them one day for Latin and logic. It *did* make a big difference!!
Kaiti~ I'm excited for your upcoming journey with three little boys and a little girl in CC. :) I posted more about Memory Masters at this link. http://www.mthopechronicles.com/2014/04/memory-masters.html It is definitely optional and best for older kids (8 or 9+) who have been in CC for at least a year, but I've watched younger kids master it all (the youngest I personally know was 6). They definitely have to be self-motivated. :) I was able to do MM as a parent for all three cycles!
Yes tell us where you'll be speaking, if it happens. I hope it's at your home campus.
It looks like I'll be speaking in Albany, OR on July 11, 12, and 13th. :)
