Is it summer yet?
Please?
I’d love a perpetual July. [Clearly I’m an Oregonian.]
Maybe you’ve noticed that the blog has been silent for the longest break ever, almost two months. I completely skipped over my ten-year blogiversary.
TEN YEARS.
That’s something to celebrate, but I’ve been bogged down by the decade-ness of this season. I feel like I’ve said everything that can be said, twice or thrice or ten times too many. My boys aren’t as adorable as they used to be in the early years. My house is showing serious wear and tear and the accumulation of junk. My body is showing the accumulation of years and pounds. Homeschooling is hard. Parenting is hard. Parenting teens is really hard. Instead of getting wiser, I am simply more aware of what I don’t know (which is pretty much everything).
I thought I’d have everything under control by now. I thought I would have accomplished all the things.
Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
Nope.
So here we are, imperfect and very human.
Are you still there?
I’ll be back tomorrow, in a more cheerful mood, to talk about boys and books.
I love this :) you have been such an inspiration to me. Thanks for the many posts and book lists xx
ReplyDeleteI have had one of the hardest seasons of my parenting in the past couple of weeks, so please know you are not alone. I really have the whole 3 to 5 year old thing down...they don't get to me, but the teenager thing??? No idea! Thanks for keeping it real! Julie Z
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking about you! Here's to a Spring that's not too wet!
ReplyDeleteSometimes other mamas need to hear that it's hard for others so we don't feel like we are in the trenches alone. :) As I have said recently to someone, growing up is hard! For my kids and for me. Congrats on your ten years! I always enjoy when you share, when it fits! :)
ReplyDeleteMissed you. Happy you're back and with your always real life. I have a 15yr. old son who is the oldest of four...nothing prepared me for this. We live in a very small house but no house would be big enough to fit his attitude and moods.
ReplyDeleteYes. Exactly. (Hugs.)
ReplyDeleteThank God someone finally said it "out loud!". I thought reading all those parenting and homeschooling books in the early years would mean that we would do it all "right", but instead I just feel guilty about all the things that didn't turn out like I thought it would. Prayer, prayer and more prayer! Thank you for your honesty and I don't mind if you repeat yourself! ;)
ReplyDeleteShowed up looking for help with the 5 common topics and found this post you had just written ... I quit blogging many years ago but can still relate to all that you have written. My oldest is now 22 and my youngest is 7 and these years of parenting teens into young adulthood are the most wearisome I've ever known. Couple that with still having fairly young children and here we are ... exhausted and clueless ;) I just wanted to say, yes.
ReplyDeleteYes, to all you have said in these few but true sentences.
A thousand times yes!! Parenting littles is fun! (Yes, really!!) Parenting teens into adults is beyond exhausting!! I hate to tell you, but it doesn't get any better for a while yet!! My oldest is 23--bigger kids means bigger problems!! Glad to hear someone say it out loud!!
ReplyDeleteI'm still here reading. :)
ReplyDeleteI've raised and homeschooled two kids through adulthood and am in the pre-teen phase with my third. I've been reading your blog a long time. You still have lots to say! :)
I heard you speak at a CC Practicum a couple of years ago, and your realness is so appreciated. I saw you at a swim meet in Albany last fall but didn't approach you to say "hi" because I didn't want to seem like a creepy fan girl. LOL!
Keep doing what you do. Remember, the mess means you're building something, and I promise you will make it to the finish line with the teen boys. :)
Many blessings!
Thank you for all the kind words and encouragement, friends. I truly appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteRonette, you totally should have introduced yourself! I would have enjoyed saying hello. :)
